Chalk Dust: Chalkboard Walls Aren't for Grade School Anymore

One of my favorite decorative accents is a chalkboard wall.  It's a great way to add a little whimsy and personality and serves as an ever-evolving piece of art.  I think they gain character after they've been used and erased over and over and they start to look like the old elementary school chalkboards, but a wet cloth will wash it as clean as new for those who don't like the shabby chic thing.  The applications are infinite and they can be fun in any room!

Chalkboard paint is so versatile that it can be used anywhere.   This is a really clever idea for an office.  A old door is painted with magnetic chalkboard paint and makes a great memo board.

One of my favorites is this old hutch with painted chalkboard panels

Even a headboard gets a burst of personality!  Great for a kid's bedroom

But I think a chalkboard wall is where you can really get the bang for your buck.
This corner of a bedroom is so feminine that one might think the chalkboard wall wouldn't be appropriate, but look how it defines the writing desk area.  The black silhouettes and decorative pillow tie it in beautifully and it feels very romantic.

Cozy and a little Bohemian!   Black floors and black chalkboard walls envelope this brightly colored bedding.  Hand-drawn frames  make charming art pieces, but my favorite detail is the hand-drawn crown moulding and trim!

A retro-style kitchen gets an extra blast from the past with this chalkboard wall above the wainscoting.  Scribble your favorite recipes or dinner menus.

How much fun is this?!?!

This vintage industrial kitchen feels so cozy with the black walls.  A great place for a grocery list!

I like the way this contemporary dining room uses the chalkboard accent wall.
The space still feels very modern.

Looks like the entry hall of a college professor.  Clever touch with the hand-drawn umbrella and the book on the shelf.

The options are limitless with chalkboard paint.  It's an affordable means of bringing attention and adding a conversation piece.   Black chalkboard paint can be found at Benjamin Moore by the quart for around $17.  If you want a decorator color, check out Tilano chalkboard paints at $29.99 per quart.
